Botball: the Tuning function

After you have finished building a complete five-bot team at the Garage, it may be your team is just a few points above or below 125. If this is the case, you can adjust your team's point values by tuning your bots’ modules instead of replacing them. To do this, click on the tuning button; you may now click on your team’s separate modules and tune them up or down according to your needs.

When you tune up a module, you increase its cost by 1; when you tune it down, you decrease its cost by 1. Most of the module’s stats are slightly modified according to the new cost. You cannot tune a module up or down by more than 1 point.

How to Tune

To tune a module up or down, simply click on the module you wish to tune and then on the “+” or “-” button; this will tune the module up or down, accordingly. Keep on tuning modules until your team costs an exact total of 125 points.

You can also autotune your team by clicking the Auto button; if you do this, the computer will automatically tune some of your modules up or down, picking the less average bots first, bringing your point total to 125 without you having to decide which modules to tune.

When NOT to tune

If your team’s point total is significantly above or below 125 points, consider replacing some of the modules instead of tuning; module tuning is intended to smooth out small point differences, not rebuild your team stats entirely. In fact, if your team’s point cost is below 100 or above 150, even tuning your whole team up or down won’t help.

125 points

The goal of tuning is to bring your team’s point cost total to exactly 125 points. Once you have achieved that, you need no more tuning, and you’re ready to save that team and start playing with it!
