A Brief Story of BRO
In the 21st century, humanity developed a powerful new science: Psytech. This knowledge allowed humankind to harness the power of the psyche, and transform it into energy and technology. As with any new science, there were inherent dangers that even the wisest did not foresee. Humanity had organized itself into the Corporation-State; Capital had overrun the government and enthralled it, which coincided with the almost total depletion of natural resources.

The situation was a dam waiting to burst; the various Corporate-States waged war on each other using Psytech, The Final War, the conflict to end all conflicts. In the last stages of the war, the planet decimated and with less than 50 percent of the population left alive, a strange phenomenon manifested itself…The Chimera.
Scientists and Meta_Historians cannot agree on what it is, some schools argue that it’s energy, other that it’s the collective unconscious manifested, and others say it is some kind of radiation with free will, be that as it may, the Chimera started to engulf what little remained of the planet…born from Psytech, the Chimera was unstoppable. Matthias Wang, one of the few remaining capable leaders in the world, and chairman of one of the most important states, devised a plan and sent an elite squadron to destroy the Chimera with an unknown weapon…

The Icarus Squadron, the elite force sent to handle the Chimera failed; in fact they only increased its power. The fallout created by the secret weapon’s explosion reached a radius of over 2000 kilometres, absorbing everything in its path. The land was destroyed; nothing was left standing, at least nothing alive. The members of the squadron rose, devoid of bodies, they stood as pure spirits, entities born from Psytech, and with a Red aura. These spirits grabbed the decaying flesh around them, and built themselves new bodies from carcasses. This how the first Unliving were born; those famous Dreamlords who patiently await the time when the stars are right and the Chimera reappears. Meanwhile their spawn spread throughput the globe, erecting dark and rotten towers and using arcane rituals to expand their power.

But nightmares never travel alone. Following them closely behind came their younger siblings… dreams. The Mythic, the embodiment of humanity’s collective subconscious: they’re the gods, the heroes and maidens...the warriors of the mountains, prairies, forests and oceans. They are the Elves, the Lycanthropes, the Sirens, The Centaurs, the Dwarves of human folklore and legend, making their adobe in the regenerated forests and other ecosystems of the world. Their weapons and aura always shinning green, as they clash against the Unliving in the destructive feud, which has gone on for many moons, or at least that is how the elven bards tell it.

In the last instants of the Final War, just as the Icarus Squadron was about to complete their mission, Matthias Wang played his other card. Grabbing a number of selected individuals, he lead them underground, away from the power of the Chimera. This event known as The Concealment is where the Prometheans were born. As the Unliving and Mythic fought for power, the Prometheans developed a very advanced society, learning to almost fully control Psytech, thus increasing their capabilities through the powers of the mind. Nobody knows (except maybe the Dreamlords, but they aren’t telling anyone) how long the Prometheans spent underground, but once they emerged unto the Outworld with their advanced weapons and blue aura, the fate of all three factions was changed forever.

Ever since the Prometheans appeared, the three factions have fought for supremacy and power in the few lands that the mist permits. These epic battles were many heroes have fallen have come to be known as War Seasons.
But, today the face of these battles has changed, no longer is it the Unliving versus the Promethean or the Mythic, no, today the armies are made from individuals from all factions under the leadership of new warlords, as they struggle to solve ancient riddles and complete missions that will lead them to victory, or will it?
